The Children’s Institute of Hong Kong Limited (TCI) was founded in 2003 by the parents of two children with autism. Today, TCI operates as a nonprofit school for children with autism and behavior disorders that has been granted charitable organization status under the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. TCI is located within and closely affiliated with The Harbour School, a kindergarten and primary international school (THS).

TCI serves children with autism spectrum disorders and their families using evidence-based and state of the art treatments derived from the science of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Teaching children with disabilities to become children with abilities can summarize our mission. This is made possible, but not limited to the following four factors:

  1. Learning objectives are met through special instruction using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA 1) in a one to one student to teacher ratio and group formats.
  2. TCI’s relationship and close proximity to THS provides our students with opportunities to learn in a general education setting with their TCI trained ABA teacher “shadow”, when appropriate.
  3. The Harbour School was created in 2007 to give TCI students the opportunity to learn in a general education environment with their typically developing peers. All TCI students participate in The Harbour School to the maximum extent appropriate.
  4. A close working relationship with our families ensures that they are supported while accepting training and guidance from the TCI administration and teachers. Our families participate in a comprehensive system, termed our “Helping Hand”.
